Christmas post

Christmas was a great time. there was not much to say on the subject. I got some really good gifts including a Camera! (Thank you Santa) and a stamp making kit! (Thank you Aunt Casey!) but i have to say the two funniest gifts i got was rechargeable batteries (i think my parents got tired of me complaining i ran out) and a Star Wars Toy. (See picture)

Of course there was the famous Candy Canes. i have to say the cinnamon ones weren't as good. When it comes to the candy canes i like them original.

Want some good Christmas music? the album is Sleighed. I heard about it a couple of years ago when my Aunt got it. Probably the best christmas music ever. and as promised a link to iTunes.

The Reason Stargate Did Work

I made a post earlier about how Galidor didn't work and now i am posting about how Stargate did work.

This sequel to the 1994 movie Stargate chronicles the further adventures of SGC (Stargate Command). It turned out that the Goa'uld Ra was only one of many alien System Lords who used the Stargates to conquer much of the universe. When Earth uncovers a working cartouche to decipher the coding system of Earth's stargate, they can now travel anywhere. Earth's military sends out SG teams to explore new planets, find technology, and oppose the Goa'uld. Jack O'Neill and Daniel Jackson from the movie are part of SG-1. They are joined by Sam Carter, a scientist, and Teal'c, a Jaffa who is convinced the Goa'uld are not gods.

1) Location: Stargate originally aired on Showtime (as a verifier you can see the nudity scene in the pilot) but when there were cancellation scare the creators and producers saw as a chance to quickly move the show to the SCI FI Channel .

2) Time: Stargate is a one hour show. enough time to lay out a substantial plot and conflict, and enough time to lay out a good character building segment.

3) Story Arc: The first part of the story arc (Goa'uld ) lasts 8 seasons. also the story arc never completely disappears. It just is not the main adversary for the last 2 seasons. Season 9-10 and The Ark Of Truth is the Ori Story Arc. (Continuum was a separate movie.)

4) Time Slot: The overall time slot that was chosen after the crossover to SCI FI was good. Friday nights is the prime night for SCI FI fans considering we nerds don't go out.

5) Season Structure: The main structure of all Stargate season's are similar and make for a strong viewer turnout. mainly the midseason cliffhangers and the season end cliffhangers are what is best.

I could go on and on but I think this gets my point across.

The Reason Galidor Didn't work

Galidor is my all time favorite of shows. I found the DVD's on iOffer. The show is the best around and revolutionized 1/2 hour Television shows.

When two teenagers from Earth find themselves in a strange new world, they embark on the greatest adventure of their lives. Aided by an unlikely trio of allies, and pursued by a powerful conquerer, they must discover the secret of GALIDOR, and save the Outer Dimension!

I find that there were two big problems with Galidor and if these two things were fixed early then the show would probably still be on.

1) Time: The show did OK as a 1/2 hour block but would have done even better as a full hour show. The 1/2 hour block kept the show cramped and did not leave much creative room for the show to grow.

2) Location: The show would have done better on a network or network affiliate. if i could give a guess it would have done well under NBC's regime and would have done even better with NBC's affiliate SCI FI.

My Mood Today is Down To Two Choices

What Do You Think?

Not A Fan

I think that christmas music is way overrated. its not that i am Scrooge-like but i just do not enjoy all of the marketing of christmas. the music, the compulsive need to decorate. it just all seems a little too much for me. I lost my interest in christmas music about five years ago when i started turning to Atheism. i still have a soft spot for a couple songs but i do not want to hear them over and over. decorations always have bothered me and I want no part in the decorating ritual. I know i agree with 90% of people that carolers are probably natures way of saying "I hate you all". I think that there is nothing more annoying than trying to have a nice christmas just to be interrupted by a group of 5-10 preppy (probably high or hammered) people that will not leave unless you feed them or join them. (sounds like an evil empire thing)

I do not find displeasure in the christmas rituals because I am an Atheist. I find displeasure in it because it is a marketing tool. we spend more money and focus on christmas decorations than anything else. I am a fan of the fact of Christmas just not the whole "Deck The Halls" approach.

Golden Globe Nominees

As Terrence Howard, Brooke Shields, Rainn Wilson and Elizabeth Banks announced the 66th Annual Golden Globe nominations in Beverly Hills on Thursday morning, several announcements may leave stars scratching their heads about being honored or skipped over this year.
The largest surprise of the morning came for Tom Cruise who earned a Globe nomination for best supporting actor for his almost unrecognizable role in the hit summer action comedy "Tropic Thunder." Tom impressed audiences and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association with his manic and over the top comedic role as a Hollywood mogul.
Tom will compete in the same category as co-star Robert Downey Jr., who was also nominated in "Tropic Thunder" for his role as a white method actor playing a black man. News of Robert's role was initially met with some raised eyebrows, but once fans saw his hilarious satirical take on the role, fans flocked to the film. Both actors received supporting laughter when their noms were read out loud.
In what could be the biggest Golden Globe long shot, James Franco was nominated for best comedy or musical actor for his pothead role in Judd Apatow's "Pineapple Express." His supporting actor portrayal as Harvey Milk's first lover in "Milk" was overlooked.
Though fans flocked to the big screen version of "Sex and The City," and many thought Sarah Jessica Parker would get a nod, she and the film were completely left out of this year's nominations. The actress had previously been honored for her role on the HBO television series that the movie was based on.
Another surprise was for the film "In Bruges," which received nods for best motion picture - comedy or musical, and double best performance by an actor in a comedy or musical nods for Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, who will compete against each other.
The Danny Boyle-directed film, "Slumdog Millionaire," is shaping up to be the awards show surprise indie darling earning a nomination for picture, director and screenplay.
On the television front, cable continued its dominance of recent years. Showtime finally established itself, earning 8 nominations, more than any broadcast network on the shoulders of hit shows "Weeds, "Dexter," and "Californication."
HBO lead all nominees yet again with 22 nods, with strong showings for new shows "In Treatment" and "True Blood," which both received best television series - drama nominations, as well as nods for lead actors Gabriel Byrne and Anna Paquin.
Many were also surprised to see Kevin Connolly nominated for best actor in a comedy or musical for "Entourage."
There were four double nominees this year - all in film: Clint Eastwood (both for musical categories -- but no noms for directing or acting!), Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes and Tom Wilkinson.
On the music front - you'll see both Beyonce Knowles, Miley Cyrus and Bruce Springsteen at the Globes this year - they were nominated for their respective songs in "Cadillac Records," "Bolt"and "The Wrestler."
But not everyone in Hollywood received a congratulatory phone call this morning, including many movies and actors who were widely expected to earn a nomination.
"The Dark Knight" did not receive a nomination for best picture like many in the industry believed it would. The late Heath Ledger, who was nominated for supporting actor, was the only person to get a nod in the Bat-camp. This could be a bad sign for "The Dark Knight's" possibility of earning an Oscar nomination.
Also passed over in the best picture category was the Harvey Milk bio-pic, "Milk," which many critics see as a contender for best picture at the Oscars, and which has won several early awards kudos. Also snubbed, Josh Brolin for best supporting actor. Sean Penn did, however, get a best actor nom.
In another film surprise, Michael Sheen was passed over for his role as David Frost in "Frost/Nixon."
Taraji Henson and Cate Blanchett were both snubbed for their roles in "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."
Will Smith, who stars in the upcoming, "Seven Pounds," was also skipped this year, in a role that has received a hefty amount of award show buzz even before its release. It may have suffered because not many people have seen the film yet.
On the television front, ABC hit shows (and previous multi-Globe winners) "Desperate Housewives," "Lost" and "Grey's Anatomy" were all completely left out of this year's nominations.

AG says He Will Act Soon

Illinois' attorney general on Thursday threatened to go to the state Supreme Court to have embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevichdeclared unfit to hold office if he doesn't resign soon or get impeached by the Legislature.
Hours later, Blagojevich went to work in his Chicago office without commenting, giving no sign of heeding calls for his resignation. "He's working," said spokeswoman Kelley Quinn.
Blagojevich was arrested Tuesday on charges of scheming to enrich himself by selling Obama's open seat for cash or a lucrative job for himself. The governor, out on bail, has authority to appoint the replacement.

The Most Corrupt State?

Not Illinois. It is North Dakota.
Naturally I might add that it has been a red state since 1992. For my blue constituents i might add that I am not surprised.

He Did What?

Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich somewhat surprised the nation when he was arrested for Bribery.

What Was He Bribing?

President- Elect Barack Obama's Senate Seat.

In All of a sum up for me. i was not surprised. So All I can say is.

NAIL HIM AG. PATRICK FITZGERALD.

I Have seen it all now

If anyone from wyandotte is reading this then you know that Mr. Bayer is not a person to mess with. he is the strong arm in the schools discipline. (as it should be) I have known the man for about a year and a half so i was surprised when i saw this sign.
We were talking about this during class this morning. at first we thought that this was a joke but after an explanation (and a little research on my part) an article was found confirming the rumor.

here is an excerpt.

Turns out, someone had a beef with Quinly’s outspoken politics. Since he erected those signs, he’s been under assault from a fast-food junkie. Every morning, the activist alleges, someone chucks the garbage from their McDonald's breakfast onto his front lawn.

One morning earlier this month, Quinly staked out his front drive and finally spotted the politically motivated litterbug. The man in question was driving a black GMC pickup truck. Fed up with the greasy onslaught, Quinly hopped in his car and followed his suspect until it pulled into the parking lot of Wyandotte High School. Armed with the man’s license plate number, Quinly attempted to track down the driver’s name; what he got: Robert Bayer, the school’s assistant principal

In all fairness it was written on some bias. (no offense Mr Bayer) but his voice is deep and commanding which may have confused the reporter as to saying he was getting kind of angry.

Comments from the pitch readers

AP

Good for David Quinly! The pen is indeed mightier than the sword.
Robert Bayer has no business working with children. I am encouraging everyone as outraged by his behavior as I am to contact the KCK School District. Perhaps a refresher course in the first amendment is in order for Mr Bayer.
